Volunteer Program
Stars Volunteer Program Overview
The Glenview Stars Hockey Association is built on the dedication of families who volunteer their time to support our players, teams, and events. By sharing this responsibility, we can strengthen our club, align our organization with best practices followed by other clubs in our local hockey community and continue making the Glenview Stars a great place for our players and families.
2026–2027 Requirements:
Applicable to all players: two (2) hours per player must be completed by March 31, 2027.
No reductions are offered for multiple players; for example, 2 players = 4 hours, 3 players = 6 hours, etc.

If there is a volunteer opportunity that you would like to create, please send the details to the volunteer committee at gvstarsvolunteer@gmail.com.
NOTE: Team-specific game responsibilities, including scoreboard, clock, music, and penalty box duties, do not count toward the volunteer requirement.
Signing Up for Shifts and the Rules
We will utilize the Crossbar system to manage our volunteer opportunities. Each family will automatically be enrolled into the volunteer program when registering for the fall season.
Open volunteer opportunities (and corresponding hours) will be posted on the Glenview Stars webpage (under Volunteer Program) or emailed to the club. Be sure to sign up as early as possible to secure your preferred opportunities. Each family is responsible for finding and selecting their own volunteer opportunities.
FAQ SECTION:
WHO SHOULD I CONTACT FOR QUESTIONS?
Contact the volunteer committee at gvstarsvolunteer@gmail.com with any questions, concerns or help to find hours to complete.
NEED HELP GETTING YOUR HOURS?
Check the Glenview Stars webpage for volunteer opportunities. If you are still having trouble finding enough hours to meet your requirements, please contact the volunteer committee at gvstarsvolunteer@gmail.com for assistance. There’s always a way to help!
HOW WILL MY HOURS BE LOADED IN CROSSBAR?
Volunteer shifts will be tracked in the sign up genius and then loaded in Crossbar by the Volunteer Program Chair once verified by the event chair. Parents do not need to input into Crossbar.
CAN TEAM SPECIFIC GAME RESPONSIBILITIES COUNT TOWARDS VOLUNTEER HOURS?
Team specific game responsibilities, including scoreboard, clock, music, and penalty box duties, do not count toward the volunteer requirement. Tournament event coordination, Locker room monitors, Team Manager, Team Treasurer and Team Social Media do count towards volunteer hours.
WHAT IS THE VOLUNTEER HOURS CANCELLATION POLICY?
● Families who need to cancel a volunteer shift must do so at least 48 hours (2 days) before the start of the shift
● If a family needs to cancel less than 48 hours (2 days) before the start of the shift, then the family is responsible for finding a replacement volunteer and notifying the Volunteer Committee of the substitution before the shift begins.
● If the event or volunteer chair cancels the shift at least 2 days prior to the start of the shift, then the canceled shift will not count toward the family's volunteer requirement. The family will be responsible for signing up for another eligible volunteer opportunity to fulfill its requirement.
CAN A NON-PARENT VOLUNTEER?
No. Only player parents or legal guardians can volunteer (no siblings, relatives, neighbors, babysitters, etc).
CAN I COMPLETE MORE THAN MY MINIMUM NUMBER OF REQUIRED VOLUNTEER HOURS?
Yes! All help offered is appreciated and vital to the success of the program.
IF TWO SHIFTS TAKE PLACE AT THE SAME TIME, CAN ONLY ONE FAMILY MEMBER SHOW UP AND GET CREDIT FOR BOTH SHIFTS?
No. Each volunteer shift counts toward your family's volunteer requirement and must be staffed by one family member. A person may only receive credit for one shift at a time.
IF I SIGN UP FOR ONE VOLUNTEER SHIFT, CAN TWO FAMILY MEMBERS ATTEND AND GET CREDIT FOR TWO SHIFTS?
No. Each registered shift counts toward your family's volunteer requirement. If your family signs up for one shift, your family will receive credit for one shift, regardless of how many family members attend. To receive credit for multiple shifts, your family must register for each shift separately.
DO BOARD MEMBERS NEED TO COMPLETE VOLUNTEER SHIFTS?
No. Since they put in countless hours, they are exempt from the volunteer policy.
DO TEAM MANAGERS NEED TO COMPLETE VOLUNTEER HOURS?
No. They will receive full credit for their volunteer requirement by taking on these responsibilities.
HOW DO I LOOK UP MY HOURS?

● Click on Participants from the menu that appears
● Click on your player
● Scroll down to see your Volunteer History
Note: if you have more than one player you must click on each of them to find your total hours earned and owed by taking the totals from each
WHO DO I TALK TO PRIOR TO MY VOLUNTEER SHIFT TO ENSURE I’M PREPARED?
Each volunteer registration should include the name of the primary contact or committee chair for your shift. If no contact is listed, please reach out to the Volunteer Committee for assistance.
