All three Glenview Stars Mite teams enjoyed added skills and scrimmage sessions this weekend as part of the Falcons Hockey Association Mite Development Showcase.

Organized by Falcons President Guy Considine and Hockey Director Tom Miller, the event, new this year, was intended to "provide a warm environment to showcase Mite Travel Hockey with our North Shore neighbors and to provide a learning environment where our coaches and players have an opportunity to work on their individual skills and team development."

The on-ice itinerary for each team varied according to the ice time available. For example, the Mite 2 teams had a mixed-team skills session followed by a team scrimmage. At the Mite 3 level, a fun and fast-paced scrimmage was the main event. At each level, coaches from both teams were on the ice coaching players through the skills session and scrimmage, stopping play at various points to better explain game strategy and positioning.

The Development Showcase provided a unique way for the Stars teams to interact with teams from another association in a fun, less-competitive environment. Players from both associations welcomed the chance to learn together through a series of high-tempo drills and coach-supervised scrimmages in accordance with the principles of USA Hockey's long-term athlete development initiative.

The Stars thank the Falcons for the invitation -- and the hospitality room stocked with snacks and beverages -- and welcome the opportunity to work together in the future for the betterment of all of our players. Special thanks also to Mite team managers Yvette Finegan, Jodi Daul and Michelle McCarty for juggling schedules to make this event a reality for the Stars.
