Hockey Makes A Difference!

The Glenview Stars will host a holiday fundraiser game to benefit the Hornets Youth Sled Hockey Team at the Glenview Ice Center on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, from 7-8:10 p.m. The 1999 Glenview Stars Bantam players will host the game in the spirit of giving and will donate all proceeds to the Hornets organization to purchase sleds for their handicapped players.

The Glenview Stars players hope to raise $1,200 so that the Hornets can purchase two new sleds. The Stars players will be collecting donations from family and friends, selling pucks for a "chuck-a-puck" competition and holding a bake sale at the game to help them accomplish their goal. The Chicago Blackhawks Ice Crew will be in attendance to take photos and participate in this holiday benefit night.

The Hornets Youth Sled Hockey Team was started eight years ago by JJ O’Connor, a former player who sustained a catastrophic injury in a hockey game. The Hornets consist of kids aged 5-20 who have physical disabilities, yet are determined to play ice hockey or to be part of a team. In many cases it's not even to play hockey: for some, it is their only freedom outside a wheelchair or walker.

The Hornets Sled Hockey Program is completely free to players. The program is fully funded by donations from organizations such as Blackhawk Charities, St. Laurence High School Hockey Club and various individuals. 100 percent of donations received go directly to the purchase of equipment and ice time.
