11th Annual Stars Alumni Game to Honor Breast Cancer Survivors

On Monday, Dec. 23, Stars Coach Steve Funteas and the Glenview Stars Bantams will proudly host the 11th annual Stars Alumni Game and 2rd annual "Tilt with Chryseis," to promote, honor and remember all women battling breast cancer. The game is at 8:20 p.m. at the Glenview Ice Center and follows the sled hockey game. The matchup features the Glenview Stars Bantam Minor Central States team against a team of Glenview Stars alumni. Everyone is welcome to watch the game and cheer on the Stars!

In 2011, Coach Funteas's wife Chrys was diagnosed with breast cancer. Chrys, an optimistic warrior, conquered breast cancer. In 2012, with the support their children John, Alycia and Lauryn, and other family and friends, Coach Funteas and the Glenview Stars organization sent an uplifting message of support by wearing pink jerseys during the Stars alumni game to honor those fighting breast cancer.

According to Stars President Stephie Arkus, "Chrys Funteas's fight against breast cancer is inspiring. Her grace, sweet disposition and welcoming smile have never wavered throughout her struggle."

Coach Funteas says, "The highest reward for a player's effort is not what he gets for it, but what he becomes of it." Coach Funteas brings out the best in every player by building character in young adults and encouraging them to become a better person on and off the ice.

The Funteas family and the Glenview Stars are committed to increasing the awareness of breast cancer. As Coach Funteas always says, "You don't quit until your mind tells you to." Victory comes in a moment, excellence comes over time, so prepare every day.
