Steve Funteas Named Glenview Stars Top Bantam Coach The Glenview Stars are thrilled to announce that Steve Funteas is returning to the Stars organization as the Stars' top Bantam coach. Steve brings a wealth of coaching experience and expertise to his new role as top Bantam coach for the Stars. He coached for the Glenview house league from 1990-99 and for the Stars from 1990-2005. From 1999-2005, he coached Midget AA major and minor teams, Bantam A and Squirt AA teams for the Stars. From 1996-2003, he was the head coach of the Buffalo Grove varsity boys hockey team. From 2005 to the present, he coached the Falcons Bantam AA team and helped with the Bantam A and Midget minor AA teams. In the 2006-07 season, he coached the DePaul University men's hockey team. In addition to his coaching experience he has attained a Level 5 Masters coaching certification. Steve will start his new role this spring and will coach the top Bantam team in the upcoming 2008-09 season. The Stars invite all Bantam players to meet Steve at the Bantam skills session next Tuesday, April 15, at 7:05 pm in Buffalo Grove. You don’t need to be on the Bantam spring roster to attend. Steve is also looking forward to seeing you this summer during the Bantam summer skates. *Steve can't wait to share his passion for the game with the Stars and is looking forward to returning to the organization that taught his own children the game of hockey. Team News NIHL A2 Major Champtionship Game -- Stars Blue vs Stars Red It was an all Glenview Stars A2 NIHL Championship Game! On Saturday March 8 our two Glenview Stars' A2 Major teams (Red - coached by Rich Callaghan and Neal Pagano and Blue - coached by Mike Weiss and Mark Dieker) battled it out at Allstate Arena in the NIHL Championship Game. For the second year in a row, Coaches Mike Weiss and Mark Dieker brought home the NIHL Championship Banner. In a hard fought game that came down to the wire, the Blue team scored with 43 seconds left in regulation to win 3-2. We are happy to report that the Red team didn't let the loss get them down as they roared back on Sunday to defeat Winnetka Gold 5-0 to take first place in the Winnetka Cup Tournament. Look for the new banners and the trophy at GIC. Go A2s. It was a great effort by both teams and we congratulate all the players on having a tremendous season. Mite Bronze takes Winnetka Cup Congratulations to the Mite Bronze team on their first place finish in the Winnetka Cup earlier this month. The team went 3-0 in the round robin with victories over Wilmette, Evanston and Winnetka, and beat Winnetka 4-2 in the championship game. It was a complete team effort with contributions from all the kids and a great ending to a memorable season for Mite Bronze. Stars Spring 2008 Hockey Thanks to all those who attended and helped out with Spring Tryouts. Who is eligible? Mites (2000 and younger) Squirts (’98–’99) PeeWees (’96–’97) Bantams (’94–’95) What is the program? The program consists of eight skills sessions and four 3 on 3’s. The Stars will field tournament and non-tournament teams at every level. Fees for non-tournament teams will be $450 and will include eight games against other northern Illinois hockey associations. For players who are looking for more competition, the Stars are offering a tournament team at each level. Tournament players’ fees will be $595, which includes two tournaments and additional game practices. Goalies $200. Where is the program? Since the Glenview Ice Center will be closed for renovations, the Stars have obtained ice at the Vernon Hills (March) and Buffalo Grove (April, May). A complete spring schedule of all skills sessions, 3 on 3’s and games will be available after game scheduling occurs March 17. When are Tryouts? For non-tournament players the program runs March 11 to May 10. For tournament players the program starts March 11 and ends with a tournament May 17–18. Player evaluations and tournament team selections will take place on these dates: Mites: March 11, Vernon Hills at 5:50 pm Squirts: March 11, Vernon Hills at 7:00 pm PeeWees: March 12, Vernon Hills at 6:10 pm Bantams: March 12, Vernon Hills at 7:20 pm Skills will run Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 3 on 3’s will run on the weekends along with most games. Mandatory Checking Clinics The Stars are offering 2 checking clinics for FREE to all Stars' '07-'08 players! These will be taught by Jim Philbin and Dave Maciuk. These clinics are mandatory for each player who is moving from Squirt to PeeWee. - Thurs Mar 6 - 6:10pm-7:10pm @ VH

Players not enrolled on the Stars’ Spring Program will pay $75.00 for the clinic. 2007-2008 Season Was a Great One the end of the 2007-2008 hockey season is upon us. Our teams enjoyed success during the NIHL season and in tournaments and the Mite Gold and the U10 Girls teams brought home Championship flags. Our A2 Major teams are doing very well and are looking forward to starting the playoffs. The Stars have started new traditions, including Super Game Days and the Skate a Thon. We are looking forward to a terrific spring program, where skill development will be emphasized and games will be played for fun. A2 Congratulations to our A2 Major Red and Major Blue teams on making the NIHL playoffs. Games start this week. Mite Gold Congratulations to the Glenview Stars Mite Gold team on their second place finish in the NIHL tournament. After losing the first game of the NIHL round robin to Northbrook 2-1, the Stars rallied to beat their archrival the Express and the heavily favored first place Hawks. They played the Vikings in the Championship game and although they lost the game, they proudly brought home a NIHL second place flag that will hang from the rafters of the Glenview Ice Center for years to come! Girls U10 Congratulations to the Glenview Stars very first girls team on their third place finish in the Blackhawk Cup. The U10 girls were just one victory away from the Championship game when they lost to their archrival, Evanston, 4-2. They came back the next day to beat the Huskies 3-2 and brought home a third place flag. We are looking forward to seeing the girls compete again next year. Bantam Silver *And, congratulations to the Bantam Silver team on their tournament championship in the Indianapolis President's Day Cup Tournament. The team went 4-0-1, with three come from behind victories. The most exciting was against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Down 4-2 with 2 minutes left the Stars rallied to score 3 goals in 58 seconds. The championship was a real team effort. 11 players scored and Michael Bisioulis and Garrison Sanipass had hat tricks. Goalies Cam Irwin and Zev Grumet-Morris were named tournament MVP's.
