2008-2009 Season Team News Girls U10 Wins State Championship Congratulations to the Glenview Stars Girls U10 team who after two years of hard work became State Champs with a 5-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets in the 2009 Blackhawk Cup Championship Game last night in Bensenville. The girls built on their 3rd place finish last year with a lot of hard work, dedication, and fun on and off the ice with their teammates. They played a difficult schedule this season, enjoying success with their 2nd place finishes in tournaments in Connecticut and Detroit against some of the best girls' teams in North America, and took their lumps against some top Squirt teams including one of the best in Wisconsin. Their hard work paid off and they achieved resounding victories in the State Round Robin against NIHL Tournament Champs Winnetka, NIHL Tournament Runner-Up Fury, and Wilmette. This is a dedicated group of girls. In addition to their NIHL Mite and Squirt team commitments, they played 29 additional games as a girls' team, had practices and traveled to tournaments. The Glenview Stars again say congratulations and thank you to the girls, parents, coaches, and managers for their dedication and outstanding work. This was truly a team effort with all involved. Bantam Gold Second Place 2008-09 NIHL/Wolves Cup Championship The Glenview Stars congratulate the Bantam Gold team and its coaches on their outstanding performance in the NIHL Gold Round Robin Tournament. The team, coached by Steve Funteas, Mark Skoskiewilcz and Mark Nolan, finished first in its bracket and second in the NIHL Tournament. Congratulations to the Squirt Bronze team who capped an outstanding run in the NIHL Wolves Cup Tournament by defeating the Falcons 6-2 on Sunday, February 15 in Barrington, taking the Third Place banner in the Squirt Bronze division of the Tournament. The Stars made it to the Final Four of the Tournament by defeating the Huskies 4-1 and Winnetka 2-1 before dropping a tough game with the Ice Dogs. The Stars also want to congratulate the Bantam Gold team on their second place finish in the NIHL tournament. The team came from behind twice and battled into overtime but eventually lost 4-3 to the Hawks in overtime. The Stars also want to recognize the PeeWee Bronze and Mite Bronze teams for finishing in the top 8 of their NIHL bracket. The Stars U10 Girls took to the road in two recent tournaments and came home with 2nd place hardware in both!! December 27th-30th they travelled to Newington, CT to play in the CT Polar Bears Holiday Tournament against some of the best teams the East Coast has to offer. After posting victories against the CT Polar Bears, MA Spitfires, and the East Coast Wizards (MA) they found themselves in the finals against perennial powerhouse Assabet Valley (MA). The girls battled but come up short losing 2-1 in the Championship Game. January 23rd-25th they travelled to Taylor, MI to play in the North American Friendship AAA Tournament. After posting victories against the Victory Honda, Belle Tire, and Windsor AAA Clubs they found themselves in the finals against a Whitby Wolves team that is 26-0 for the season and the top ranked U10 Team in Ontario. The girls played their hearts out but lost in the Championship Game. Congratulations to the Stars U10 Girls Team for two outstanding efforts and we are looking forward to seeing you all in the Blackhawk Cup State Tournament!! The Stars are thrilled to welcome three A2 teams to the organization. The A2 Minor team is coached by Mike Weiss. The A2 Major Red team is coached by Rich Callaghan, and the A2 Major Blue team is coached by Dan Pederson. League play is underway. Good luck to our youngest Stars! Congratulations to the Mite Bronze Team. The team finished in second place in Johnny's Ice House Santa Shoot Out. Congratulations to the Mite Gold team. The team went undefeated during the tiering round! The team also took second place in the Big Bear Fall Colours Tournament held in Ann Arbor Michigan. Squirt Gold attended the same tournament and came home with the first place trophy! Congratulations. The Stars also want to recognize the PeeWee Bronze team for participating in their own "Winter Classic." On December 17, on the heels of a big snow, the PeeWee Bronze team played Winnetka outside at Watts Park. While it was cold, PeeWee Bronze played hard from beginning to end. Unlike their wimpy opponents who spent shifts inside warming huts, PeeWee Bronze stayed outside for the whole game and took the cold like real hockey players. And, in case you are wondering, after very scientific experiements, the team learned that a person's tongue will stick to metal if it is cold enough outside! | Stay Tuned for SUMMER SKATE info with the Glenview Stars !!!
