Designed to Strengthen Organization at Every Level

The Glenview Stars are proud to announce the inception of a new program designed to build pride in our outstanding youth hockey program. It is our belief that instilling a strong sense of pride in our young hockey players will strengthen our overall program at every level and perpetuate a solid image of the Glenview Stars Hockey Association.

It is well understood that the younger hockey players look up to older players and try to emulate them on and off the ice. The idea behind the Mentoring Program is to enlist older Stars hockey players to assist with younger players’ development. We feel that contact with the older, more mature and disciplined Stars’ players will build confidence in the younger players and will inspire a sense of community.

We believe that with a strong sense of pride and community, our younger players will thrive and our older players will gain a sense of accomplishment and pride from helping develop the younger players. Furthermore, as the younger players become the older players, they will want to give back to the program. This self-perpetuating program will ultimately pay dividends in that we will have a stronger cohesive program with highly skilled players.

What we envision for this program is that the older players will attend practices and demonstrate drills for the younger players. They will also skate with the younger players during their drills and encourage and correct them throughout the drills. Their responsibilities will be supervised and directed by each individual coach. Each coach will decide how to best use and integrate the older players in the younger Stars’ practices. Moreover, as a participant in the program, the older players will realize more ice time thereby strengthening their own personal skills. In addition, we also hope that the mentors will receive credit from their schools for their participation in this program.
