Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will the tryout be open to the parents?

A: Tryouts will not be open to the parents. We feel this environment is best for both the players and the coaches. It limits distractions and allows for better focus and attention for the players and coaches.

Q: Will my daughter be able to tryout for a higher level team? E.g., Can a U12 girl tryout for the U14 team?

A: While we feel that it's usually best that each player play for the team of their age level, Stars coaches will collectively determine whether or not a player is better suited to play on an upper level Girls team. We recommend that each player tryout at their age level along with their intended level, regardless of their desire to play at an upper level.

Q: I hear that younger players have been designated to play for upper level teams. Is this true?

A: No, this is not true. Parents may have declared their intent to do so with their daughter, but those decisions will be made by the Stars Girls coaches once all of the team tryouts have completed. Any such decision will be based on both what is best for the organization and the individual.

Q: If a girl is unavailable to attend the tryout at her level, can she still tryout for the team?

A: Yes. Although we prefer that each girl attend the appropriate tryout, if a player is unable to attend, parents should discuss the circumstances and alternative arrangements with Stars Hockey Director, Sylvain Turcotte, or Girls Hockey Coordinator, Melody Drake. In such situations, the player may be asked to attend an alternate tryout session so that a proper evaluation can take place.
