Team Prepares Meals for Local Food Pantries

The Glenview Stars PeeWee Silver team finished up their successful season on a high note Friday night when they packed up emergency brown bag meals for the homeless. Tom and Erin Maiorca, parent of defenseman Teddy Maiorca, organized the service project for the team.

The Maiorcas talked to the players about the need to help food pantries, especially this time of the year. They also let them know that the food would be sent to one of two food pantries in Chicago -- St. Philip Neri or St. James Parish -- where the bags often feed children just like themselves.

The bags were overflowing with non-perishable food donated by the families. Each one contained prepackaged tuna and crackers, trail mix, cheese and crackers, juice boxes, dried fruit, applesauce, granola bars and power bars. Lots of extra leftover food was also donated to the food pantry.

After they packed all the bags and boxes into Mr. Maiorca's car, the boys stayed and enjoyed the Friday Night Meltdown at the Glenview Ice Center. What a great way to end the regular season!
