The Glenview Stars posted an impressive start to the 2009-2010 season, going 4-2 on opening weekend. The Stars Mite 1 team beat the Sabres 5-2 and Squirt 2 beat the Blues 5-2. In the PeeWee division, the Stars PeeWee 1 team dominated the Yellow Jackets by winning 7-1 while PeeWee 2 beat the Wildkits 5-1.

The Stars Squirt 3 team played a hard-fought game against the Falcons, skating to a 4-2 loss at the horn.

In the Stars Mite 2 home opener, the team looked strong throughout the game, despite a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Hawks.

Mite 2 center Joe Young opened the scoring for the Stars with a well-executed shorthanded breakaway goal. Left wing Jack Nimrod scored the second goal for the Stars with a wrist shot through the “five-hole.” Noah Seiden, Grayden Daul and Colten Ludwick had an impressive shift, dominating play in the offensive zone with prolonged pressure, resulting in numerous scoring opportunities. Forward Cole Musick was effective moving the puck up the ice and driving to the net.

On the defensive front, Alex Thomas had a top-notch game, displaying hard work from buzzer to buzzer. Anthony Kim executed several strong rushes from his defensive position. Regan Lewis played very tough, making some great plays to keep the puck in the offensive zone. Brendan Buckley helped the team by breaking up several Hawks offensive attacks in the zone.

In the net, goalie Kyle Jedynak had many saves from the crease to keep the score close and made a great save on a breakaway in the first period.

After the game, Mite 2 Head Coach Rob Messner commented, "I was very impressed with what we did today."

Looking ahead, the Stars Peewee 3 team gets its season underway on Tuesday with a 7:35 p.m. game against the Jets at the Glenview Ice Center, followed by Mite 3’s first game on Wednesday against the Huskies. Both the Squirt 1 and Bantam 1 teams hold their first games next week. Go Stars!
