Congratulations to Glenview Stars player Alex Thomas for being named the BMO Harris Bank Blackhawks Youth Player of the Month for March 2012. Alex is a Squirt who played on the league-champion Squirt Silver and state finalist Girls U10 teams, winning four flags this season.

Alex was selected by the Blackhawks over a large number of other candidates because of her enthusiasm in hockey and in the community. As part of the award, Alex was honored during an on-ice ceremony on April 1st at the Blackhawks vs. Minnesota Wild game at the United Center.

Alex was also interviewed by a Blackhawks/Comcast camera crew at practice this month and her interview will air on Comcast SportsNet Chicago (channel 37 or channel 200 HD) this Thursday, April 12 at 5 p.m. The broadcast will repeat several times this month.

According to the Blackhawks, selection criteria for the award is based on:

• Hockey Accomplishments
• Volunteer activities in the nominee's community
• Demonstrated passion, dedication and spirit through commitment to community

In determining the Youth Hockey Player of the Month, the judges will also consider the nominee's academic accomplishments and involvement with his/her school.
