Glenview Stars Hockey Travel Program

Since 1973, the Glenview Stars Hockey Association has been one of the most respected and successful travel hockey programs in North America. The hundreds of banners decorating the walls of the Glenview Ice Center are a significant testament to the development of our young athletes. In addition to hockey skills, the Stars are dedicated to fostering each player's character and appreciation of this great sport.

Glenview Stars Hockey offers the opportunities for the developing hockey player to play competitive travel hockey from September through February. During the course of the season, you can expect to have upwards of 50 practices, 30 league games, skills clinics and the opportunity to travel with your team to hockey tournaments both locally and out of state. All tournament participation is decided on a team-by-team basis, voted on by each team’s parents. The Stars will continue to field teams in NIHL at the Bronze, Silver and Gold & Elite level with Squirt Major, Pee Wee Minor and Bantam Minor participating in the Central States Developmental Hockey League. Players will be selected for the AA, A & B level teams during tryouts by team coaches from the Squirt B to the Midget levels.

2015-2016 Coaching Staff

With our energized coaching staff, we are ready for an exciting season. Under the coordination of our Hockey Director, Sylvain Turcotte, we have assembled the finest group of coaches in the state! Tim Benz and the Ultimate Athlete staff will lead the Glenview Stars Skills Development Program on ice and dryland training sessions. Our goalies will be instructed by the Wendell Young Goaltending School.

Conditioning Clinics and Tryouts

Conditioning clinics will be held Saturday, Aug. 22 through Sunday, Aug. 30. Tryouts for all regular travel teams will take place between Tuesday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 12. Players are selected and placed on teams via a tryout process. If selected, a Stars travel hockey player is expected to attend all regularly scheduled practices and games. This time commitment is critical to the growth of the player and success of the team. Each Stars travel hockey player can plan on skating approximately 3-5 times per week with their team. In addition, each team may compete in 1-3 out-of-town tournaments per season.

All registration sessions are now open. Register separately for fall tryouts and conditioning clinics.

  • Time Commitment: Typically 3-5 hours of ice per week
  • Number of Games: Typically 35–45 per season, level of play dependent. Home games and practices are played at the Glenview Ice Center, North Shore Ice Arena and Twin Rinks in Buffalo Grove. NIHL away games are played at other rinks around the Chicagoland area. CSDHL away games are played throughout the Midwest.
  • Team Fees: Approximately $3,000-$3,800, level of play and league dependent (exact season fees will be announced soon)
  • Additional Costs: Home/Away game jerseys are about $200, additional tournament expenses and team slush fund approximately $300-$500.

Travel Hockey Leagues

Glenview Stars teams play in two different travel hockey leagues. Our top Squirt Major (2005), PeeWee Minor (2004) and Bantam Minor (2002) teams will play in the Central States Developmental Hockey League, while most of our teams will continue with our tradition of playing competitive travel hockey in the Northern Illinois Hockey League.

Central States Developmental Hockey League (CSDHL)

Our top Squirt Major (2005), PeeWee Minor (2004) and Bantam Minor (2002) teams will play in the Central States Developmental Hockey League (CSDHL), which is highly competitive and specifically designed for elite Tier II hockey teams within Illinois and the Central States region of the United States, including Illinois and Missouri.

  • The CSDHL is comprised of elite travel hockey teams from Illinois and other midwestern states
  • Teams compete against one another in league play, culminating with league playoffs in early February
  • Age levels are separated into Major and Minor birth years
  • Develops and promotes the development of Tier II hockey in Illinois and Central States region by offering, establishing and maintaining the highest standards of excellence and sportsmanship in individualized and team play
  • Teams typically average 24 league games (Mid-September to the end of January), plus tournaments
  • Read more at www.csdhl.org

Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL)

The Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL) is the largest travel hockey league in Illinois and involves teams from the Chicago metropolitan area, as well as some teams from surrounding areas.

  • Teams are created by clubs during a tryout process, selecting players for teams based on skill level
  • Each participating clubs' teams enter one of the metallic divisions (Gold, Silver, Bronze) at their age level, intended to group teams of similar skill levels
  • Teams play eight games within their division in a seeding round which goes from late September to late October, followed by the regular season
  • After the seeding round is complete, league officials review the results and re-tier teams into appropriate divisions (Elite, Gold, Silver and Bronze) for the remainder of the regular season
  • In addition to the eight-game seeding round, teams play 12-18 games during the regular season (early November to early February), plus tournaments
  • Each league division conducts an end-of-the-season playoff tournament, referred to as the Wolves Cup
